G'us a job!

Hello again and welcome to September, where has this year gone? We have now been on the Island for 11 months and I really can't believe it.

OK, so what have I been up to over the last week, well, let me see...

I have been up and down with my mood regarding getting a job, I am rapidly thinking that I will never find a Nursing job over here, no-one wants to employ a Nurse with MS, and its true I can't perform either the heavy physical tasks or those requiring fine dexterity. I get sooo depressed about it as I find myself thinking I am worthless and that all the training and work I have done in the past has been wasted, and I am useless and "surplus to requirements" I have no purpose in my life - I couldn't have children so there are no grandchildren either and there is no career either, so just What am I here for?

Lets try and lighten things up a bit and maybe I can stop wallowing in self pity. At the weekend we went to the Isle of Wight Steam Fair. What an amazing event! there were all manner of steam vehicles from huge great steam engines to small motorbikes. There were fairground rides too and yes, I admit it, as a "thirty nineteen" year old who should know better I thought what the hell and went on the gallopers roundabout. It was a bit tough to get on and my thighs ached terribly the next day but it was fun.

I also managed to upload the video of Titan from the Garlic Festival, after a palava but hopefully you'll enjoy that one too!

Something else that hubby and I did over the weekend was go to a birthday party, sadly there was no ice cream and jelly, but there were some lovely cream teas. Oh yes, and the birthday girl was an amazing 100 years old. She got a telegram from the Queen and a card from Dept Work and Pensions too. Did you know they got one from them? No neither did I. The lady is still fully there mentally but I must admit I do see a resemblance to Catherine Tates "Nan" character and I have this image in my head of what she might have said when she got home. Anyone who has seen the programme will be smiling knowingly now! I asked her if she was enjoying her party which she was and then if she thought she'd be tired at the end of the day. Not a chance, she has more staying power than me at almost exactly half her age. I asked if she would do it all again and she would, so maybe, we will be celebrating in another 100 years. God Bless her. I passed on best wishes from Ivy Bean the eldest tweeter/face booker in the UK (maybe the world) who is actually 104 next week! and my neighbours face lit up at the thought as she asked me to return the sentiment to her senior!

The weather on the Island seems to have taken a turn for the worse over the last few days, with torrential rain and gale force winds - apparently it is the remnants of hurricane Danny from the US (thanks guys!) all I know is I am much colder and have had to put a blanket on the bed tonight. Hopefully we will get a bit more summer before Autumn really hits. We haven't seen so much of our foxes lately with just Arthur (Alf a tail!) and the new young vixen being the only visitors over the last fortnight or so. Mind you, there is still Sonic and the 3 baby hedgehogs. They eat the scraps and dog food with glee, and should certainly meet a good hibernation weight come October/November.

I haven't been able to walk so much this week as I have felt physically quite weak but have also been stressed by a number of things this week, including a trip to the dentist today. We have just registered with a new dentist in Sandown and consequently left our one in Ventnor as I have been concerned about some of his practices. They do not offer any mouthwash after performing treatments - including fillings and extractions. I queried this one day to be told they weren't allowed to, sorry but that is Bull***t, I checked with the PCT and they said that although they are not obliged to offer it, they are certainly not prohibited from providing it. Anyway, we have now turned our back on NHS dentistry and will be going private from March next year. It will also be better as she is on the ground floor and our former one is a up a flight of quite steep steps, which if my MS gets worse will be impossible.

Right that has bored you enough for now, had a bad night last night so will try to get a good sleep tonight. Take care all and catch you again next week.

Jen xx
