Death of my father

On the 17th March 2012 my Dad died.

As a child I was so proud of him, he was a policeman in the days when they were respected and had some authority. He was the first police 'white knight' in Cambridgeshire, leading a team of four patrolling the county fighting crime and controlling traffic. He then became a station sergeant at a Cambridgeshire village and was a well known figure in the area.

In his later years he became very frail and suffered from chronic obstructive lung disease as a result of many years of heavy smoking (policemen did in those days, in fact it was encouraged). He also blamed the heavy exhaust fumes he was frequently exposed to in traffic jams on the A11 and A45 as it was then.

Sadly I was unable to attend his funeral, I know that I would have suffered a severe relapse and the atmosphere my sister would have caused had I gone would have been too distressing to my mum.  We are going up in June and will visit his grave then. I sent some flowers and contributed to his wake even though I couldn't go.

RIP Peter John Cross (1933 - 2012)
